Our Commitment

Right Rudder is built with privacy at its core. As a flight instructor, you handle sensitive student information and training records. We designed Right Rudder so that data never leaves your control.

The short version: We don't collect any data from you. Student records, flight logs, and endorsements stay on your device or in your personal iCloud account.

What Data Right Rudder Stores

Right Rudder stores the following data that you create:

  • Student records - Student names, contact information, certificates, and training progress
  • Flight logs - Flight training records, dates, aircraft, maneuvers, and notes
  • Endorsements - FAA endorsements you create and issue to students
  • Documents - PDFs and documents you generate or store within the app
  • App preferences - Your settings and preferences within the app

Where Your Data Is Stored

Your data is stored in two places, both under your control:

  • On your device - All data is stored locally on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac
  • In your iCloud account - If you enable iCloud sync, your data is stored in your personal iCloud account to sync across your Apple devices

We have no servers. We cannot see, access, or retrieve your data. It belongs entirely to you.

PDF Generation

Right Rudder can generate PDF documents for endorsements, training records, and other forms. This processing happens entirely on your device. No data is sent to external servers to create these documents.

Data Security

Because Right Rudder handles sensitive student information:

  • All data is stored using Apple's secure data containers
  • iCloud data is encrypted end-to-end by Apple
  • We recommend enabling device passcode/Face ID for additional protection
  • You maintain full control over who has physical access to your device

What We Do NOT Collect

To be absolutely clear, Right Rudder does not collect:

  • Personal information (your name, email, or your students' information)
  • Device identifiers or advertising IDs
  • Usage analytics or behavioral data
  • Location data
  • Any data for advertising purposes
  • Crash reports or diagnostics (unless you explicitly share them with Apple)

No Third-Party Services

Right Rudder contains no third-party SDKs, analytics tools, or advertising frameworks. We don't use Firebase, Mixpanel, Facebook SDK, or any similar services. The app communicates only with Apple's iCloud service when you have sync enabled.

No Account Required

Right Rudder does not require you to create an account. There is no login, no sign-up, and no personal information collection.

Data Export and Portability

Your data is yours. Right Rudder allows you to export your records as PDF documents that you can share, print, or archive as needed.

Data Deletion

Since your data is stored on your device and in your iCloud account:

  • Delete individual records within the app
  • Delete the app to remove all local data
  • Manage iCloud data through your device's Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Manage Storage

Regulatory Compliance

While Right Rudder helps you maintain flight training records, you are responsible for ensuring your record-keeping meets FAA requirements. We provide tools to help you stay organized, but compliance with 14 CFR Part 61 and other regulations is your responsibility as a certificated flight instructor.

Children's Privacy

Right Rudder does not collect any personal information from anyone. The app is designed for certificated flight instructors to manage their training records.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, we'll post the new version here with an updated date. Our commitment to not collecting your data will never change.
